In a world shaped by artificial intelligence, Anguilla has a prime seat at the global tech table. AI, the country code assigned to Anguilla, has become a digital brand of choice, propelled by the rise of AI platforms like ChatGPT and Google Gemini. Thanks to our control of the .ai domain, this two-letter code stands at the heart of the global AI revolution. Owning a .ai domain signals innovation, branding, and tech credibility, with global interest growing daily.
In an interview with Mr. Lanston Connor, Anguilla’s Registrar of Commercial Activities at the Companies Registry, The Anguillian Newspaper learned that approximately 600,000 .ai domain names are registered worldwide, generating roughly $4 million USD monthly ($11 million ECD monthly) in 2025 from renewals alone. This demand, driven by tech giants, startups, and innovators, has turned our digital real estate into a national revenue stream. Yet, Mr. Connor notes a concern: many Anguillians remain unaware of the investment opportunities for local residents and the potential income-generating spin-offs. He opined ‘that must change’.
To address this, Mr. Connor sought and received Executive Council (EXCO) approval in October 2024 for an initiative allowing businesses to register official company names using .ai as a corporate suffix. No longer just a domain name, .ai is now a powerful corporate branding tool: one name, one identity, globally recognizable. For example, a domain like Robotics.ai can become a registered company: Robotics.AI or Robotics, Anguilla Incorporated.
Companies can choose from EXCO-approved suffixes such as: .AI, Anguilla Incorporated, .ai.ltd, .ai.sez (for Special Economic Zone entities), .ai.limited, .ai.inc, .ai.co, and .aisez. Domain owners register via the Company Registry Electronic System (CRES) at www.commercialregistry.ai, through a licensed agent with verification of .ai domain ownership, often completed in 24 hours.
This is transformative for entrepreneurs in tech, food, creative, or service-based businesses with an online presence. No longer must you use a generic LLC—your domain is your business.
“This is about unifying corporate branding and empowering domain owners to build real businesses under a single, recognizable identity,” Connor explained. “The goal is to make .ai synonymous with Anguilla’s global presence.”
With the emergence of AI, foreign investors and tech firms, especially in Russia, China, and the U.S., have secured thousands of .ai domains. While the government benefits from revenue, individual Anguillians could also build wealth—if more participated.
“We’re seeing millions from renewals,” said Connor. “But there’s a gap in local ownership. Our people are not fully aware of the opportunity.”
Anguillians have access to discounted .ai domain pricing, significantly lower than international rates like $140 for 2 years on platforms like GoDaddy. Local pricing is approximately $150 for 8 years. Yet many locals aren’t seizing this chance. “There’s a lack of awareness about domain ownership and its potential as a business asset,” Connor added.
What many don’t realize is that .ai domains are not just for use—they are investment vehicles. Most .ai domains are being resold for upwards of $20,000 USD per name on the open market. At just $150 for 8 years, the opportunity to acquire digital real estate and later resell it could represent a substantial return on investment for Anguillians. Just like land, .ai domains are finite, and demand is only growing.
Anguilla has relied on tourism and financial services as income generators. But .ai could become a third economic pillar, with sustainability, global reach, and high margins. With 600,000 domains at $140+ renewal, plus company formation services, the revenue potential is substantial. Local startups could also create jobs, diversifying our economy. Anguilla’s compliance with international AML/CFT standards ensures a trusted jurisdiction for these ventures.
So what can Anguillians do to join this tech opportunity? Mr. Connor advises:
• Buy a .ai domain aligned with your interests (e.g., IslandTours.ai, AnguillaEats.ai, CaribTech.ai).
• Register a business using that domain name under the new .ai suffix system.
• Build a brand—even if just holding the name for future use or resale.
• Consider listing high-quality domains for resale as digital assets.
• Contact the Commercial Registry at +1-264-497-3881 or visit www.commercialregistry.ai to learn more.
Anguilla is small, but our digital footprint is vast. The .ai domain is our virtual land, our future—and as Mr. Connor urges, “it’s time more Anguillians treat it that way.”
