Newly elected Premier of Anguilla, the Hon. Mrs. Cora Richardson-Hodge, continues to promote her election campaign mantra, “Putting People First”.
Following her swearing-in as a Member of Parliament in the House of Assembly on Tuesday, March 11th 2025, she made an emphatic reference to her Party’s “People Plan”.
“By now many of you would have heard about the Anguilla United Front’s People Plan,” she said. “We have been steadfast in our vision to create a society that is inclusive, sustainable and thriving. And at the core of our ‘People First’ agenda, is the belief that every Anguillian, regardless of age, deserves an opportunity to succeed.”
“This framework,” she continued, “is not just about policies. It is about changing lives and nurturing a society where every individual can feel valued, informed and empowered.”
The Premier pointed out that in her administration’s “People Plan” the primary goals include economic diversification. She insisted that there is a need to move beyond traditional industries. “By investing in areas such as renewable energy, technology and agriculture we can create a more resilient economy that offers opportunities for all our people.”
The Premier also took the opportunity to outline some of her administration’s plan for health care and education. “Our youth are not just the leaders of tomorrow,” she observed. “They are valuable contributors to our present and the architects of our future. They are innovators, dreamers and change makers. However, in order for them to flourish we must prioritize their needs and aspirations. This is why our ‘People First’ agenda places youth at the forefront,” she said.
She promised that with the “People First” agenda, her administration pledges to improve educational facilities and transform healthcare services into institutions of which Anguillians can be proud.
Then, in terms of renewable energy she stressed: “Our natural environment is our most valued asset. Together, we will champion sustainable practices to protect our ecosystems while promoting responsible tourism and development. This includes moving aggressively to support ANGLEC and its renewable energy integration which will translate to cost savings for all our people.”
