The James Ronald Webster Park was a sea of colour, energy, and fierce competition on Wednesday, 12th March 2025, as the Albena Lake-Hodge Comprehensive School (ALHCS) held its annual Inter-house Sports Day. Sponsored by Lloyd’s Aviation Services Limited, the event saw the five houses—Pink Panthers, Yellow Hornets, Purple Lions, Orange Tigers, and Maroon Dragons—bring-on their A-game, vying for the coveted championship title in a day brimming with athleticism, camaraderie, and school spirit.
The event kicked off with a spectacular opening ceremony, with all five houses’ athletes proudly marching onto the field, waving their flags high, accompanied by the rhythmic beats of the Anguilla Cadet Corps and the drum corps of the Pathfinders. Among the distinguished guests in attendance were the Hon. Premier Mrs. Cora Richardson Hodge, Hon. Mr. Mr. Cardigan Connor, Hon. Mr. Jose Vanterpool and Hon. Mrs. Shellya Rogers-Webster, as well as other government officials, education officers, and sports representatives.
Principal Dr. Trevor Hodge reminded the students that sports day is about more than just trophies. “It is about pushing yourselves beyond your limits, demonstrating sportsmanship, and learning important life lessons like teamwork, perseverance, and resilience,” he said. Dr. Hodge also took a moment to commend the tireless efforts of the teachers, staff, and maintenance workers who made the event possible, as well as parents and the wider community for their unwavering support.
Education Minister the Hon. Mrs. Rogers-Webster echoed this sentiment, acknowledging the dedication and sacrifices made by students to prepare for this highly anticipated event, while also giving special recognition to the sports clubs that continue to nurture Anguilla’s young athletes.
Minister of Sports the Hon. Mr. Cardigan Connor also encouraged the athletes to embrace the spirit of sportsmanship and perseverance.
The morning events saw intense competition in the 200m, 400m, and 800m races, with the Pink Panthers establishing an early lead. As the afternoon unfolded, the excitement only grew with the highly anticipated races including the 4x100m and 4x400m relays. Athletes pushed themselves to the limit, spurred on by the thunderous cheers of their housemates and local supporters who filled the stands in their respective colours, chanting, jumping, and screaming in anticipation of the final results.
When the dust settled and the points were tallied, the Pink Panthers roared to victory with a resounding 697 points, solidifying their dominance throughout the day and holding on to the championship title for the 2nd year in a row. As their win was announced, the Panthers erupted in celebration, chanting their motto—”Pink is Power, All the Time and All the Time, Pink is Power”—while waving their house flag with unbridled pride. Even the Hon. Mr. Jose Vanterpool showed his ever present pink pride by joining in on the jubilant celebrations.
The Orange Tigers secured an impressive second place with 667 points, while the Yellow Hornets, who had previously won in 2023, rounded out the top three with 559 points.
The final results were as follows:
1st Place: Pink Panthers – 697 points
2nd Place: Orange Tigers – 667 points
3rd Place: Yellow Hornets – 559 points
4th Place: Maroon Dragons – 402 points
5th Place: Purple Lions – 395 points
Though the Panthers claimed the crown, every house displayed unwavering determination and sportsmanship, embodying the very essence of healthy competition. Win or lose, the spirit of the games, the unity among students, and the electric energy of the crowd made this event a resounding success.
As Dr. Hodge, Hon. Mr. Connor, and Hon. Mrs. Rogers-Webster reiterated, every participant should be immensely proud of their efforts.
