On Wednesday 1st November, 2023, telecommunications company FLOW made a generous contribution to the Albena Lake-Hodge Comprehensive School (ALHCS). The company donated four Black & Decker microwaves with a value of just under US$2,000.
The microwaves will be used by students who require their lunch to be heated up so they can eat a warm meal at school.
Brand Manager for the Northern Caribbean, Mrs. Jade Reymond Richardson made the presentation.
“As a corporate partner, we here at FLOW continue to listen to our community and seek to find ways that we can help when the need arises,” she said. “We have a very good relationship with the Ministry of Education, and given the new ‘back to school’ timelines, one of the immediate needs now is the availability of microwaves to facilitate students at the campuses of the ALHCS.”
“So we called one of our local electronic suppliers and secured four much needed microwaves to donate to the school today,” she said. “We are pleased to provide this convenience for the children and to make them as comfortable as possible, eating a warm lunch at school.”
In response, Deputy Principal, Ms. Cherise Gumbs said that she was delighted to receive the gifts: “I would like to extend much gratitude to FLOW, who continues to be a very good community partner with the school over the years.”
“So on behalf of the Albena Lake-Hodge Comprehensive School,” she said, “I would like to say thank you. We are going to ensure that these microwaves are placed on the various sites, namely Campus B, Campus A and the new Campus Q in The Quarter.”
She said that it was indeed very heartwarming to know that businesses like FLOW can reach out to the school in this fashion.
“We can now encourage parents to send their children to school with their lunch,” she said. “Parents had been asking lately if there were heating facilities at the school to provide a warm lunch. Well, now we can say yes, thanks to FLOW.”
The microwaves will serve as a handy fit-for-purpose feature until the school is able to commission its planned cafeteria services in January of 2024.
Wednesday’s donation was made in respect of FLOW’s Mission Day which will be observed on November 11th.
