Cyclists and organizers had a blast on Sunday 01st October, 2023, in Little Dix. It was a day full of excitement and thrill as twenty-eight cyclists from different categories competed in the annual bicycle race hosted by the Bass Heads Car Club. The iconic race was called “The Best of the Worst” and it sure lived up to its name.
The route for the cyclists started next to Rob’s Barber Shop in Little Dix, through Welches and Island Harbour, down into the Long Path, making a right at Lake’s Stop Light and back to the start-finish line in Little Dix.
Elite cyclists completed four laps, the Masters completed two laps, and those who competed in the Best of the Worst category did one lap.
In the youth cycling categories, ages 7-8 started at the Stoney Ground stop light and ended at the finish line in Little Dix. The youth cyclists aged 9-10 took the route through the Mango Garden, Lakes Stop Light and back to the start-finish line.
A total of twenty-eight riders, which included five from St. Maarten, participated in the challenge as part of a fun family afternoon.
The winners of each category were:
Elite – Category: 1st – Delroy Carty – (AXA), 2nd – Hector Rogers – (AXA)
3rd – Rolandio Lake-Rogers – (SXM).
Masters – Category: 1st – Signiel Comnecia – (SXM), 2nd – Benjamin Phillip – (AXA), 3rd – Andre Hughes – (AXA).
Best of the Worst – Category: 1st – Andre A.M. Samuel – (AXA), 2nd – Craig Emmanuel – (AXA), 3rd – Bryan Hennis – (AXA).
Youth (9 – 10) Years – Category: 1st – Je’Marreo Hughes – (AXA), 2nd – Makhai Hodge – (AXA), 3rd – Jordan Barbrow – (AXA).
Youth (7 – 8) Years Category: 1st – Z’Kari Panchoo Lake – (AXA), 2nd – Khari Smith – (AXA), 3rd – Haseem Hennis – (AXA).
The Anguilla Cycling Association (ACA) congratulates the Bass Heads Car Club for organising this amazing event and making it a success.
