The Anguilla Methodist Circuit hosted its annual Vacation Bible Camp, known as Summer Fest from August 14-18, 2023. The Theme for this time of biblical teaching and creative learning was ‘Put on the Armour of God.’
In light of the many social challenges confronted by our children and young people, the goal of this year’s Summer Fest was to teach biblical truths on the reality of spiritual warfare. The selected text for ‘the Armour of God’ teaching, was Ephesians Chapter 6: 10-18.
Participants were placed in three groups according to their ages, 5-8; 9-12; and 13-17, where they learnt how to protect themselves using the analogy of the armour used in battle. Activities throughout the day, which ran from 9am to 12 noon, included Daily devotions; Bible Study; Craft making and Know Your Church sessions. Guest presenters, Pastor David Christmas of the Faith Baptist Church and Atocia James of the Hope For the Nations Church also shared with the participants on Using the Armour of God with specific reference to Gangs, and Sharing your Testimony, respectively.
A special Dance workshop was facilitated by Regine Niles for the girls of age group 9-12. Craft was facilitated by Ms. Renee Carter the Webster twins, Krystal and Krystie. Bible Study was facilitated by Rev. Candis Niles, Rev. Wilmoth Hodge and Sis. Marva Thompson, while “Know Your Church” was presented by Bro. Kenn Banks. Programming for the children aged 5-8 was coordinated by Teacher Norma Maccow, with the able assistance of Teacher Hyacinth Hughes and Tr. Jisan Brooks. Participants also benefitted from the support and encouragement of the Superintendent Minister, Rev. Vincia Celestine.
The 2023 Summer Fest took place at the Maranatha Church and was organized by the Children’s Commission under the leadership of Chairperson, Sis Elvarie Vanterpool and Secretary, Sis Cheryl Richardson, as a means of ministering to the needs of the children in our congregations and the wider Anguillian community.
Refreshments were provided each day by one of the six congregations of the Anguilla Circuit, with a special treat provided on the final day by Mr. Alfred Reid. Snacks for the Closing Ceremony were provided by the Ebenezer Congregation and Dr. Lindel Brooks.
Highlights of the Week included the hosting of a Fun Day at the Sandy Ground Ballfield for all participants and the closing Ceremony where students exhibited their knowledge, skills and crafts in a presentation of the week’s proceedings for the benefit of parents, and the participants, led by Rev. Niles, who delivered the closing address.
The participants demonstrated their ability to use the Armour of God, as they joined in prayer and praise against the spirit of violence and criminality overshadowing the nation.
