Ready or not, a new school year is upon us. For students this means shopping for school supplies, getting familiar with a new classroom, and mentally preparing for a year of assignments and class projects. For teachers, it means a carefully curated curriculum, getting acquainted with new students and their needs, and planning for back to school and other parent-teacher conferences.
Hearts of Love – a nonprofit organisation, offers a chance to create a sense of community between students, their parents, and teachers. It opens up communication, sets expectations, and provides everyone with the resources they need to be successful.
For the past three years the Hearts of Love group members have dedicated themselves to giving ‘back to school’ items to the students of the Morris Vanterpool Primary and Vivien Vanterpool Primary Schools.
On Saturday 19th August, 2023, on the grounds of the Vivien Vanterpool Primary school, students from the Morris Vanterpool Primary and Vivien Vanterpool Primary schools along with other invited students were greeted by members from the Hearts of Love team.
Director of the group Ms. Monique Webster welcomed each one, introduced the event and the group contributors.
Among those present were Dr. Ellis L. Webster and Mr. Joseph “Joe B” Williams.
Dr. Webster thanked Mr. Williams for the great work that he has continued to do for many years to make the event possible. Thanks were also extended to his coworkers, his Boss, friends and others in the United States that continue to contribute to the event.
Dr. Webster also thanked Ms. Webster for making the event happen and for being dedicated and looking out for the students of the Morris Vanterpool and Vivien Vanterpool Primary schools. He thanked all those that played a role in the Education Department, Zarna Brokers, Customs, teachers and students.
The students were asked to continue to make everyone proud as they use the ‘back-to-school’ items. The students were reminded that these items were donated because people out there cared for each one of them.
Mr. Williams in his brief remarks thanked the students for coming out as it is a pleasure to give back. He reminded them that during his time of schooling he had to cut a book into two for his lessons. So, now it’s a privilege for him and his business partners, coworkers and others to show love to the students here in Anguilla.
Best wishes were extended to the students as they returned to school. He also extended a special thank you to all who made the event possible. He told the students that plans are already put in place for next year for a bigger and better event.
