Two years ago, in 2021, a partnership was forged between Cap Juluca and the “De Wizard” A class boat which has blossomed over time into a story of shared victories and values.

This season “De Wizard” was consistent in their performances and won more races than ever before, truly deserving the titles of “Boat of the Year” and then the grand victory on Sunday, 13 August 2023, becoming Champ of Champs.

In acknowledgement of their success, dedication and hard work, the management team of Cap Juluca, A Belmond Hotel, invited the crew for lunch in a celebration of these achievements at The Cap Shack.

As the “De Wizard” crew arrived, led by captain Derick Carty, their faces radiated a sense of pride. The victorious crew, dressed in all white, carried with them the energy of champions, as they were greeted with warm smiles. With a flourish of hospitality, General Manager, Sasha Tyas, raised a toast to victory, unity, and the unforgettable moments shared.

When asked how they managed to perform so well this year, “Teamwork! Our connection as a team has been growing stronger and stronger; and [above all else], there is trust for the captain that he would not only lead us to victory but also keep us safe.”, one of the crew members stated.

From one leader to another, Sasha Tyas recognised Mr. Carty and gifted him with unique experiences to be enjoyed at Cap Juluca.

The crew’s laughter and camaraderie were a testament to the bonds forged throughout the boat racing season. The victory of “De Wizard” this year is a celebration of heritage, a testament to the Anguillan spirit, and a beacon of inspiration. It symbolises the union of tradition and innovation, the culmination of dedication and teamwork.
