Mr. John Lawrence

Mr. John Lawrence has contributed significantly to the development of the Anguilla Financial Services Industry. Mr. Ralph Hodge, Chairman of the Anguilla Financial Services Commission in recognition of Mr. John Lawrence’s years of service notes “that when history is written, Mr. Lawrence’s years of service will be etched in its early pages as a major pillar in the development of the Anguilla Financial Services Commission, a vehicle which I envisage as a developmental partner in the advancement of the Anguillian economy.”
The statutory organisation of the Anguilla Financial Services Commission (“AFSC”) was formed by the Financial Services Commission Act on 1 February, 2004. The AFSC was launched officially on 2 February, 2004. Mr. John Lawrence became the organisation’s very first Director as an independent statutory body.
Mr. Lawrence also served in similar capacities with the Turks and Caicos Islands’ as well as the Montserrat Financial Services Commission. He commenced a decade of work with the AFSC as Executive Director and CEO from 1997 to 2007. Through his experience, strong work ethic and indomitable spirit, Mr. Lawrence was instrumental in the start of many of the AFSC’s varying initiatives and programmes, staff and even in the formation of the organisation’s first Board. He has served as a vanguard for the financial services industry for the entire island of Anguilla.

Additionally, Mr. Lawrence has served Anguilla in varying capacities such as Chairman of the joint Government/Private Sector Coordination Committee, Registrar General and Chairman of the Anguilla Compliance Association. He has also served regionally and internationally as a financial services examiner for both the International Monetary Fund and the Caribbean Financial Action Task Force (“CFATF”) and was the first CFATF examiner to join a Financial Action Task Force Mutual Evaluation.
