The Royal Anguilla Police Force joins in saluting Sgt 60 Beverley Thompson as she pulls down the curtain on 32 years of her policing career.
On January 4th, 1991, Sgt Thompson joined the Royal St. Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force, where she received her initial policing training at the Regional Police Training Center in Barbados. Upon completing that training, she served her home country for almost 14 years, where she worked in various departments.
In 2004, Officer Thompson was offered the opportunity to join the Royal Anguilla Police Force, which she graciously accepted. During her tenure, she worked most of her years on Beat and Patrol, where she acted as Sergeant several times. In 2016 she was promoted to Sergeant and then briefly acted as Inspector. Sgt Thompson executed her role quite well, transferring her knowledge to every officer under her command.
As with any fruitful endeavor, there were challenges that Sgt Thompson encountered and surmounted, all while ensuring the safety of the citizens of both islands. Her mantra was, “You have to love people in order to do policing. That way, you will be empathetic and able to do your job from the heart.”
Sgt Thompson takes this opportunity to thank the Government in office at the beginning of her employment; ex-Commissioner of Police, Mr. Keithly Benjamin; as well as ex-Superindent, Mr. Carl Ruan, and Deputy Commissioner of Police, Elliott Forbes, under whose auspices she was recruited. She would also like to thank all the Commissioners of Police under whose command she worked, all other officers and ranks of the RAPF, and the civilian staff.
As Sgt Thompson takes her leave, she encourages officers to do their best in the execution of their duty without favor or malice as the old saying goes, “Once a Police, twice a civilian.”
Special thanks to the Anguillian public for their cooperation and acceptance of her into the Anguillian Society.
