Ten of the best cyclists on the island participated in the 2023 Anguilla Cycling Association (ACA) National Time Trial Event on Saturday 24th June, 2023.
Public Relations Officer Derick Carty said the air was crisp and clear at the 7.00am start for the ultimate challenge of speed and endurance as the cyclists competed against the clock.
The George Hill Tire Shop served as the base for the 22 kilometres of road from George Hill to West End and back.
Carty said the route was practically void of road traffic, creating a perfect course for the riders, with the crowd buzzing with excitement as they cheered on the ten contenders.
He said the suspense was high as everyone waited for the results, which were only revealed after the last cyclist had crossed the Start/Finish line.
Delroy Carty placed first in the Elite category while Andre Hughes placed first in the Masters.

In the National Road Race on Sunday 25th June Sherwin Osbourne placed first in the Elite Category while Benjamin Phillip placed first in the Masters.
PRO Derick Carty said the National Road Race was a great opportunity for the cyclists who participated in the Time Trial on Saturday 24th June, to show their skills and stamina in a different format. He said the race attracted many spectators who enjoyed the thrilling spectacle of the cyclists competing on a challenging course.

A total of twenty-one cyclists started at 2.00 pm on the Jeremiah Gumbs Highway, and followed a loop that included Connor’s Car Rental, West End, South Hill, Sandy Ground, and Blowing Point. The route then took on the form of a circuit where cyclists continued by completing laps around the Jeremiah Gumbs/George Hill/South Hill block.
The Elite cyclists had to complete a total distance of more than 108 kilometres, which was designed to prepare them for the upcoming John T Memorial Race on July 16th, 2023.
Carty said the weather was ideal for cycling, and the race was smooth and safe.

Meanwhile the Anguilla Cycling Association (ACA) has extended its gratitude to all the sponsors who contributed to the success of the 2023 National Time Trial and National Road Race. The ACA says it also appreciates the Royal Anguilla Police Force and the spectators for their support.
The biggest cycling event of the Cycling Calendar – the John T Memorial weekend of cycling – will be held from July 13th to 16th, 2023.
“We (the Anguilla Cycling Association) have been working hard to raise funds for improving the quality and competitiveness of cycling on our island,” PRO Derick Carty said. “This is a challenging task, and we still need more financial support. We believe that cycling can promote our beautiful Island to visitors and boost sports tourism. We hope to partner with you in this endeavor as you can contact any member of the ACA. to see how you can assist.”
