The Inter-Primary Schools’ Anguilla Day Quiz is traditionally the final major contest on the academic calendar for Primary Schools prior to the spate of graduations that close off the school year. The event is considered sufficiently important to be included on the Anguilla Day calendar of events and this year’s competition took place on Wednesday, May 24th at the Morris Vanterpool Primary School in East End where the Grey Wolves, students from the Alwyn Allison Richardson Primary School (AARPS), clawed their way to a convincing win by the end of the two and-a- half hours of history and current events marathon.
The Anguilla Day Quiz was structured in two rounds, each with ten questions worth two points for a correct answer or a single point if the response was partial. The major thematic areas were Historic Events and Developments (rounds one to three), Famous People (round 4), Famous Buildings and Places (round 5) and Current Events (round 6). The nail-biting competition was battled by teams of two students from grades 4 or 5, each representing their alma mater.
The victors, with a total of 110 points were Alwyn Allison Richardson Primary School represented by Yaretzi Michel Morales and Gabriel Leveret. Second and third place were tightly contested with a difference of one point between the Valley Primary School (99 points achieved through the hard work of Camia Gumbs and Kaylani Richardson) and the Adrian T. Hazell Primary School, represented by Amara Charlery and Rielle Gumbs with a total of 98 points. Fourth place (93 points) went to Orealia Kelly Primary School whose team members were Ciara Hodge and R’rinnae Connor.
