“When it comes to giving back, any gesture – big or small – can make a real difference,” Ms Pat Hodge noted a few weeks ago.
On June 7, 2022, Pat Hodge and her daughters – Danecia, Deneice, and Patriska – cheerfully donated a flat screen television to the Dental Unit at The Valley Health Centre. They were made aware of the need to have a television mounted in the waiting room at the clinic when Pat took her mother for medical care at the newly built and furnished Dental Unit.
“The room was so quiet and the other patients were just quietly sitting there – waiting their turn to be seen by the dentist. It seemed like such a lonely and stressful place to be in at the time. If patients had the luxury of watching TV for entertainment or education while they waited, I think they would feel much better,” Pat said.
After talking with her daughters about the experience in the waiting room, they all decided to “do something about it. We decided to donate a television to the clinic to be mounted in the waiting room so that patients and their companions could find the visits to the dentist less stressful and apprehensive,” Pat stated.
Ms Hodge and the girls handed over the new television to Dr Zandrith Villaorduna – Senior Dental Surgeon, Mrs Samantha Ryan-Vanterpool – Dental Therapist, and Dr Lishaw Ward – Director of Medical Services.
Dr. Villaorduna gratefully accepted the gift and thanked Ms Hodge and her daughters for the generous donation. She noted that the television would be used for entertainment as well as for the dissemination of information to educate patients on health-related dental issues.
“When we give cheerfully and accept gratefully, everyone is blessed”, Ms Hodge concluded.
