Local media outlet, Klass FM 92.9, and its broadcaster, Mr Abner Brooks (DJ Hammer), are “being sued by the Premier of Anguilla, Dr Ellis Webster, for defamatory and libellous statements concerning the Premier,” according to DJ Hammer.
Mr Brooks interrupted his scheduled radio programming on Wednesday, August 31, and announced that he had been served with legal documents from the Premier, Dr Ellis Webster. The programme, which was also carried on the radio station’s Facebook live feed, showed Mr Brooks thumbing through pages of what appeared to be a document.
He said: “We were served just a short while ago by the Bailiff with a document that came from our Premier, Dr Ellis Lorenzo Webster. This document has to do with – as the caption states – Defamatory and Libellous Statements of and Concerning Dr Ellis Lorenzo Webster, Premier of Anguilla.”
Mr Brooks noted that “the five-page document speaks to an incident that occurred in the studio of Klass FM on Tuesday, August 16, on the [Tuesday Morning Show with Darnley Hodge], where a number of questions were raised about the Premier and a number of companies that [Mr Hodge] asked questions about.”
According to Mr Brooks, the lawsuit states that “Abner Brooks moderated and hosted by the station, falsely and maliciously broadcasted and caused to be broadcasted and published [defamatory and libellous statements] by radio concerning the Honourable Premier.”
There has been no further response from D J Hammer as to the claims made.
