Domus is affiliated with the construction engineering company, Synergy Consulting, whose partners are Jerome Richardson and Mark Jno Baptiste, two of Anguilla’s brightest brains in structural engineering and designs.

Jerome and Mark have teamed up with Terry Ortt of Domus Caribbean uPVC Solutions to provide Anguilla’s builders and home owners with the best windows and doors on the market. According to Terry, Domus windows, doors and handrails are the strongest, most durable products in the building trade today.

The Anguillian had the privilege to speak with Mr. Ortt in a zoom conversation recently. From his experience and knowledge in the areas of manufacturing and testing, he was delighted to guide us through the distinctive benefits of Domus products:

Domus Windows

“About seventeen years ago I started this company, called Domus Caribbean uPVC Solutions,” he said, “with a view of making the highest quality products required in the Caribbean. We manufacture our products right here in the Caribbean, and we now have progressed to the point where we have built a state-of-the art manufacturing facility in Trinidad. We specialise in a wide range of products. Ideally, the products that are to be used in the Caribbean should be different in many ways than the products used in North America. In the Caribbean, hurricane risk is an essential factor.

“We have the highest hurricane ratings for windows and doors in the industry,” Mr. Ortt claimed. “Our windows and doors will stand up to 200 miles per-hour winds, which is 10 miles per-hour stronger than the strongest hurricane that has ever affected these islands. Domus shutters will also withstand extremely heavy impacts without shattering.

“We recognise that hurricane protection is a big concern that should guide the decisions of anyone who is in the market for purchasing windows and doors for their new home – or for those who are replacing their old shutters. Everyone is concerned about security [against intruding forces] as well. Our Domus windows and doors are tested in our very own testing laboratory. We rigourously test our products against both wind load and security risks, in terms of high impact.”

He then went on to describe the resistance of the Domus windows and doors. “Our uPVC composite makes for the only product that will stand up virtually indefinitely over time. We guarantee our shutters up to twenty years of durability, but there is no reason why Domus products can’t last over a hundred-year span in the Caribbean, because the products are completely inert. This means they will resist the high salt content of the atmosphere. Domus windows and doors have great longevity. Once installed, you can forget about them for the rest of your life. They require very little or no maintenance. Basically, only cleaning is necessary.”

Mr. Ortt then explained a special characteristic feature of the shutters called “solar-e glazing”. “A large portion of the heat that comes into the house comes in by way of solar heat gain,” he noted. “The glass of our uPVC windows and doors carries a special invisible coating that inhibits 50% of the heat that would otherwise enter the building. This dramatically reduces the cost of air-conditioning. Or, if air-conditioning is not used, a house with Domus windows and doors will prove to be much more comfortable than one with regular shutters.”
As far as shutters dimensions are concerned, Mr. Ortt said: “We do customised sizing. We have over a thousand different configurations from which our customers can choose. Or, alternatively, if the old shutters are being replaced, then we can exactly match the opening without having to re-size the space.

“Our customers can also choose from various shades of tint and different levels of lamination. Laminations are done in our factory, making our glass between five and ten times stronger than any other laminated glass that is sold in the Caribbean. Besides, our laminated glass has a high level of noise attenuation, so it is perfect for a quiet, peaceful bedroom.”

Mr. Ortt noted that Domus also manufactures handrails, fences and high grade material, for decking. Domus windows and doors have already been provided for buildings in Anguilla through Synergy Consulting. One such building is the new Albena Lake-Hodge Comprehensive School in The Quarter.

Potential customers who are interested in these superior Domus products may contact Synergy Consulting at 264-476-2737 and speak with Jerome Richardson. They are located on the second floor of the Image Building in Rock Farm.
