2022 KIMDRA SMITH-WEBSTER FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP WINNER ANNOUNCED

Presentation of Cheque

The Valley, Anguilla- In a private, semi-virtual ceremony held at the Department of Education’s main office on Thursday, 1st September, the 2022, Kimdra Smith-Webster Foundation scholarship recipient was announced in commemoration of what would have been Mrs. Smith-Webster’s birthday.
Representative of the Foundation, and Kimdra’s aunt, Ms. Aurjul Wilson, made the presentation in the presence of the Chief Education Officer, Mr. Bren Romney, the recipient’s mother and members of the media. An emotional Wilson recounted Kimdra’s scholastic diligence, determination and kind-hearted nature as she explained how sentimental the date of the cheque presentation was for her and the rest of Kimdra’s family. Christine Smith, expressed how much the 2022 recipient’s biography reminded her of her late sister-in-law, and why of the four applicants, the Foundation unanimously selected Ms. Deztynee Bryan to be this year’s scholarship recipient.

Deztynee, who has already commenced her freshman year at the Florida Institute of Technology in pursuit of her undergraduate in Meteorology, joined the ceremony virtually via the Zoom modality and expressed her elation to be selected for the prestigious scholarship. She recounted how much Kimdra’s biography resonated with her, and how inspired she was by her accomplishments and the full and well-rounded life she was able to live before her passing. She expressed gratitude to the Kimdra-Smith Webster Foundation, and the Department of Education, before profusely thanking her mother, Violet Bryan, for her support and encouragement along her educational journey.
Ms. Bryan received $2,500 (USD) to assist in her academic studies. The cheque was presented to her mother who graciously accepted it on her behalf.
The Department of Education takes this opportunity to congratulate Ms. Bryan on her academic achievements thus far, and wishes her all the best on her tertiary education journey.
