On Saturday, May 7th 2022, Rodrigo Vasquez Chairez, an Anguilla Tennis Academy scholarship recipient, graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering with a focus in Aerospace Engineering and a minor in Mathematics from LeTourneau University, Longview, Texas. He was supported by his parents Raul Vazquez Cruz and Alicia Chairez Cruz, his brother Raul Jr. Vazquez Chairez, and Founder of the Anguilla Tennis Academy, Mr. Mitchelle Lake.
Rodrigo completed his studies as a valuable member of the LeTourneau Yellow Jackets Men’s Tennis team. In 2019 Rodrigo and his teammates won the Men’s Tennis ASC East championship. Rodrigo will commence an internship programme this Summer with Kiewit Corporation in Houston, Texas, where he will be working on a solar energy project. He will return to LeTourneau University in the Fall to begin his post graduate studies in Mechanical Engineering while serving as the Graduate Assistant for the LeTourneau Men’s Tennis programme.
When asked about his experience at LeTourneau University, Rodrigo remarked, “As I look back to the beginning of my journey, I’m reminded of all the valuable advice I received at the Anguilla Tennis Academy, for starters to not give up on the process both on and off the court. My advice to the younger players, at the ATA, is to harvest your seed of success as every one of you has the potential of one day being in the same position that I am in today. I hope my journey serves as a motivation to the rising tennis players at the Anguilla Tennis Academy, to keep improving and moving forward.”
Founder and President of the ATA, Mr. Mitchelle Lake, stated, “I am proud of Rodrigo and all his accomplishments at LeTourneau University. He serves as an outstanding role model for the younger players and ambassador for the ATA. The Anguilla Tennis Academy continues to serve as a conduit for the development and advancement of young people through the sport of tennis. It is imperative that the Anguillian community continue to support and protect it for future generations.”
We take this opportunity to congratulate Rodrigo Vasquez Chairez, his family, the Anguilla Tennis Academy and coaching staff. For more information about the ATA, visit their website at www.anguillatennis.com.
