There are many botanicals that can boast of having blood pressure lowering properties which would make conventional drugs entirely unnecessary. Here are some of those herbs. However this list is by no means exhausted. The herbs include:
? Garlic, Panax Ginseng, Hawthorn berry and Valerian root
? Maitake and other medicinal mushrooms.
Garlic is a multipurpose medicinal food that has been used for centuries. It is a member of the Allium family that includes chives, charlots, onions and welsh onions. Eating at least 2-3 pegs of raw Garlic daily prevents and/or reverses the effects of high blood pressure. The benefits of eating Garlic include:
? Lowering high blood pressure to normal levels or elevating low blood pressure to normal levels.
? Garlic prevents dangerous blood clotting.
? Preventing cholesterol build up.
? Improving circulation in the hands and feet.
Garlic normalises blood pressure thus reducing the risk of a second heart attack, as well as reducing the risk of dying from one. All forms of Garlic are beneficial, some more than others e.g. Garlic extract aged for at least a year and raw Garlic are among the best.
Another herb that boasts high blood pressure lowering properties is Panax Ginseng. This herb got its name from the Latin word panacea, meaning a cure-all. Panax Ginseng is an adaptogen herb, meaning it’s used where it’s most beneficial in the body. Panax Ginseng supports the adrenal glands, when they are working overtime, particularly when we are extremely stressed. Panax Ginseng helps us cope with our stress. Panax Ginseng also lowers cholesterol levels. There is one caution, however. Like anything else Panax Ginseng can be misused or abused. When abused there can be side effects such as skin problems, headaches and other reactions. It’s important that proper care be taken when using Panax Ginseng.
Another herb is the Hawthorn berry herb, a primary remedy for treating heart conditions. The Hawthorn berry leaves and fruit contain a Cardiotonic compound which supports a healthy heart. Hawthorn berries have sedative properties which also have blood pressure lowering properties. Here are some of the health benefits the Hawthorn berry herb offers:
? It strengthens the muscles of the heart thus increasing the heart’s ability to contract and work more efficiently.
? It increases blood flow to the heart’s muscles, thus reducing the rate of the heart beat and the amount of oxygen its muscles consume during exertion.
? Two cups of infused Hawthorn berry leaf tea, taken daily, reduce blood pressure.
There is a Hawthorn berry herb complex, an extract, called Crategus. The Crategus complex extract contains the Hawthorn Berry for strengthening the heart’s muscles; Garlic for lowering lowering high blood pressure and cholesterol levels; Passiflora, a herb with nerve calming properties – and Vitamin E to strengthen the blood vessels.
Yet another herb that boasts of its blood pressure lowering properties is Valerian root. Valerian root has been used medicinally for centuries. It is safe and offers an excellent night time sleep, unlike the many barbiturate drugs prescribed for sleeping. Valerian root tea, or the liquid extract, is also used to treat states of anxiety, difficulty falling asleep due to stress and worry. Another condition Valerian root has been used to treat is a nervous heart condition. It acts as a daytime sedative, however it does not interfere with a person’s reflexes, reaction and/or response time.
