Jeffrey Gitomer said: “To be a great leader of people – inspire them to follow you, not your rules.” This quotation is fitting as I introduce you to Ms. Cathrina Fleming.
Cathrina started her career as an Auxiliary Security Officer at the Clayton J. Lloyd International Airport (CJLIA) under the Government of Anguilla (GoA) in September 2007. Like other employees at the time, in October 2009, she was transferred from the GoA to the newly established Anguilla Air and Sea Ports Authority (AASPA), which was a statutory body of the GoA established to manage the ports of Anguilla, including the CJLIA. With a “never give up attitude”, Cathrina worked diligently and was promoted to the rank of Security Corporal in December 2016.
In December 2017, Cathrina became a certified Aviation Security Instructor under the Air Safety Support International – a designation she maintains today. In January 2020 she was promoted to the rank of Security Sergeant at the CJLIA.
Through all the ups and downs, Cathrina notes, “I want to thank God for life, health and strength. I want to thank family and friends for patience and support. I want to thank my work colleagues for their tutelage and encouragement. While the journey is far from over, I am humbled by the road covered thus far.”
Following the completion of her trainings, in January 2022, Cathrina is the first Anguillian Lead Ground Security Coordinator for American Airlines which commenced direct flights from mainland U.S.A to Anguilla on 11th December, 2021. Cathrina states, “this feat continues to amaze and humble me.”
Speaking of her accomplishments, Mr. Sherman Williams, Chief Executive Officer for AASPA, said: “Cathrina has worked very hard for her accomplishments. She has sacrificed and demonstrated a work ethic that is second to none. This is a proud day for her and the entire AASPA. I, as well as the entire Board, Management and Staff of AASPA, wish her the very best as she continues to elevate herself and her career. We are all extremely proud of her and are happy to assist. I also want to thank Ms. Cathy-Ann Joseph and Mr. Vanceroy Henry of American Airlines for the opportunity and support provided to AASPA.”
The next steps for Cathrina is to continue to mold herself into the leader she is shaping up to be – while continuing to teach and motivate her colleagues.
