Permanent Secretary of Health, Mr Foster Rogers, observed the continuous report of good news regarding the COVID-19 pandemic.
He noted: “WHO reports a decrease of 5% in covid cases and a continual decline of 8% in covid deaths globally,” and across the six WHO regions, a similar decrease in new cases and new deaths has also been observed.
However, Dr Tedros, Director General of WHO warns: “Although the reported new cases and new deaths are declining globally, and several countries have now lifted restrictions, the pandemic is far from over and will not be over anywhere until it is over everywhere.”
He continued: “We are reminded that many countries, particularly Asia and the Pacific are currently facing surges of cases of [COVID] deaths, but overall, the numbers are trending downward – globally.
“The virus continues to evolve and we continue to face major obstacles in distributing vaccines, tests and treatments everywhere they are needed.”
Mr Foster Rogers, Permanent Secretary of Health, sounded the warning during his remarks at the government’s press briefing on Monday, March 14.
The Ministry of Health has amended the polyclinics’ vaccination schedules to include the administration of paediatric vaccine doses to children ages 5-11.
All eligible persons are encouraged to receive the vaccines in an effort to increase vaccination coverage island-wide, and remove most of the COVID-19 protocols that are currently in place for Anguilla.
