The Anguilla Senior Women’s National Team will come up against Mexico’s Women’s National Team on Saturday, 9th April 2022, at 4:00 pm, at the Raymond E. Guishard Technical Centre. With several marked successes over the season for the Anguilla Women’s National Team, under the leadership of Ms. Ahkeela Mollon, Head Coach and Director of Women’s Football in Anguilla, the team is looking to show that level of growth on the home turf.

Since the introduction of the FIFA Women’s Ranking, Mexico has ranked among the top 30 national squads worldwide. This will be the first time that the Anguilla Women will face the Mexican team. Concacaf’s new structure for women’s senior national team competitions, which now includes major summer tournaments in 2022 (Concacaf W Championship) and 2024 (Concacaf W Gold Cup), kicked off in February with the first 30 W Qualifiers matches. This new ecosystem is vastly increasing the competitive opportunities for women’s national teams from all Concacaf member associations and is part of the Confederation’s wider strategy to develop women and girls’ football at all levels.

The Anguilla team players have been through the rigours of training for this tournament, remaining disciplined at every turn. In preparation for the games a friendly match, in neighbouring Dutch St. Maarten, served to provide an additional base for evaluating the technical prowess and overall strategy of the national team heading into this second round of the series. The team won the friendly game 2-1, and players gained a confidence boost but, more importantly, they were able to identify the mistakes, noting the shortcomings even in victory. This has been the most admirable trait of the developing Senior Women’s National Team as they continue to impress the masses. They are hoping for even greater success in the upcoming game against Mexico, their biggest match to date.
