Further to the COVID-19 Update published by H.E. The Governor and the Hon. Premier on Monday, 28 March 2022, regarding the relaxation of protocols effective Friday 01 April 2022, the Department of Education has relaxed the mask mandate for public schools.
However, after conducting their own risk assessment within the Education sector, The Ministry and Department of Education have determined that the nature of day-to-day operations at schools makes staff and students vulnerable. As such, teachers and students are strongly encouraged to maintain the practices of mask-wearing and social distancing. Nevertheless, in keeping with the national relaxation of health protocols, observance of these practices becomes optional from Friday, 01 April 2022. Those who consider themselves, their households, or teaching/learning environments to be the most vulnerable should continue to protect themselves against the threat of COVID-19.
Education stakeholders are further advised that all other previously established protocols remain in effect. These include, but are not limited to:
• Frequent handwashing/sanitising
• Frequent cleaning/sanitisation of surfaces
• Coughing or sneezing into your elbow or by covering your nose and mouth with tissues
• Proper and immediate disposal of used tissues in a bin or bag
• Avoiding close contact with people who are unwell
The Ministry and Department of Education assure stakeholders that every effort continues to be made to ensure the safety of staff and students.
