Anguillian and Roaring Lions FC, defensive midfield guru, Germain Hughes, has recently signed to play for Coggeshall Town FC until the end of the season. This semiprofessional club plays in the Isthmian League, Division One North, in England. There are twenty clubs in this league and Coggeshall Town FC is currently ranked 14th. According to the team’s history, Coggeshall Town FC is the joint second oldest original football club in Essex. The club was formed at a meeting held at the White Hart Hotel, Coggeshall, on September 27th 1878.
The club plays in a league that was the brainchild of amateur clubs in the London area, and was created in 1905. Currently, eighty-one clubs now participate in this league and these clubs cover the East, and South East, England. This league consists of four divisions; a Premier League and three feeder divisions: (North, South Central and East divisions).
Thus far, Germain has not played any matches but is learning a lot about the club. He indicated that, “playing in such a competitive setting is an excellent catalyst for his development”. Since joining the club, at the end of the season, he has been exposed to a high level of football training and all the accompanying elements. In this setting, where all the players are very technical, he is expected to improve his understanding of the club’s style of play.
When asked about what can young players in Anguilla do to improve their possibility of getting further into the world of football, Germain gave the following response:
“Keep finding ways to improve your football skills…Stay focused and work hard and remain disciplined, as those are the aspects that will take you far in football…Set goals from young, whether it is getting a football scholarship or professional contract – and work towards that”.
Germain’s stint at Coggeshall Town FC was organised by head of Team Recruiting and Scouting, Mr. Michael Pulford.
