Ms. Shermel Hodge and Ms. Tyeisha Emmanuel from The University of the West Indies (UWI) Open Campus Anguilla are among the nine UWI Open Campus students from across the region who have been installed as Executive Officers of The UWI Student Today, Alumni Tomorrow (UWI STAT) Ambassador Corps.
UWI STAT Ambassadors are the Vice-Chancellor’s Student Representatives on all five (5) campuses of The UWI. The programme is organised and coordinated by the Institutional Advancement Division (IAD) at The UWI Regional Headquarters and provides students with opportunities to engage with fellow students across the region and around the world. It also offers the Ambassadors a variety of experiences to enhance their education and develop their leadership skills through involvement in campus, community and alumni activities.
The new Executive is headed by President Shazara Khan of Trinidad & Tobago, with the other members hailing from Belize, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica and Anguilla. Shermel Hodge, who holds the portfolio of Vice President, Alumni Relations is completing her Bachelor of Science Marketing, while Vice President, Programming and Volunteerism, Tyeisha Emmanuel is enrolled in the Bachelor of Science in Political Science.
In congratulating the local students, Manager for The UWI Open Campus British Overseas Territories, Dr. Phyllis Fleming Banks, said, “We applaud Shermel and Tyeisha for their commitment and readiness to serve as regional UWI Ambassadors. We are excited that they will continue to represent Anguilla as they follow in the footsteps of Alumna, Ms. Kemoloy Murphy, who has the distinction of being one of the first Executive members of the UWI STAT Ambassador Corp and has gone on to assume the position of President of the UWI Alumni Association Anguilla Chapter. We at The UWI Open Campus continue to support and encourage our students to take advantage of the numerous local and regional opportunities within the University to further develop their leadership skills.”
