The Caribbean Union of Teachers’ 40th Biennial Conference was held in St. Kitts from the 5th to the 12th of February 2022 – under the theme “Educators: The key to development and recovery amidst current regional and global challenges”. Mr. Terron Azille represented the Anguilla Teachers’ Union (ATU) at the conference and, by all accounts, represented the ATU and Anguilla commendably.
Topics on the conference’s agenda ranged from Leadership, Teaching Standards within CARICOM, Education during the Covid-19 Pandemic, CXC and their handling of examinations during the pandemic – to Issues facing teachers across the region such as vaccination mandates. CUT has made it clear that it is not against vaccination, but its stance is that it is unequivocally opposed to vaccination mandates within the teaching profession.
By the end of the conference, Mr. Azille was appointed to serve on two committees within the CUT namely, The Public Relations Committee and the Sports Committee. When asked about his experience Mr. Azille stated, “This was my first time attending the CUT conference and I just wanted to represent Anguilla, the ATU and myself to the best of my ability. It was a wonderful experience. The opportunity to network with other unions across the region was great, and I will share with the ATU the opportunities that exist for us to forge even stronger partnerships with other unions across the region. I was commended by members of the CUT executive for my contributions during the conference – and I’m excited to help create a vibrant, more active ATU where we don’t shy away but face issues affecting teachers head on.”
