Ms. Hakeera Brooks

Recipient of the first Anguilla Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACOCI)/UWI Open Campus Scholarship, Ms. Hakeera Brooks is continuing to express her appreciation to the Chamber for their support. Ms. Brooks, who is enrolled in the Bachelor of Science Accounting programme at the UWI Open Campus Anguilla, was awarded the Scholarship during the 2019/2020 academic year.

As part of her commitment to demonstrating her gratitude she was on hand to assist with the hosting of Chamber’s Annual General Meeting on January 19, 2022. During the presentation of her Report, ACOCI President, Mrs. Christine Lloyd-Richardson lauded Ms. Brooks for her commitment and continuing to excel at her studies.

Hakeera, who is an ardent Footballer and UWI Open Campus Student/Athlete says that she is truly, thankful and blessed that the Board of the Anguilla Chamber of Commerce and by extension, the Business Community has this confidence in her. “I am grateful that during such challenging economic times, they see a future in me and are willing to invest in me as a young Anguillian and I pledge to continue to do my best to continue to make the Chamber and The UWI Open Campus proud.”

Manager for The UWI Open Campus British Overseas Territories, Dr. Phyllis Fleming-Banks says that The UWI Open Campus also continues to express its appreciation to the Anguilla Chamber of Commerce for their vision and continued commitment to education through the funding of this scholarship. “These are times when some governments and institutions are cutting back on training and development, but as the Chamber demonstrates, it is during these challenging times that investment in our youth is critical. Hakeera’s long-term goal is to become a Certified Public Accountant, and this investment by the Chamber will undoubtedly benefit the business community and Anguilla as a whole. We are indeed grateful and continue to invite individuals, families and organisations to invest in our youth and our country by creating or contributing to a scholarship at the UWI Open Campus Anguilla.

The UWI Open Campus can be contacted at (264) 497-8156 or email anguilla@open.uwi.edu.
