The Anguilla National Trust invites members of the public to participate in the seventh region-wide survey of Caribbean waterbirds on Wednesday 2 February.
The Caribbean Waterbird Census was established by the Society for the Conservation and Study of Caribbean Birds in an effort to learn more about the distribution, status, and abundance of waterbirds in the Caribbean and to improve regional and national conservation planning and management of these magnificent and beautiful birds and their habitats. The Census is held throughout the Caribbean during a two-week period from late January through early February.
The Anguilla census will take place on World Wetlands Day, Tuesday 2 February.
For this year’s activity, the ANT invites members of the public to a family-friendly bird count and mangrove planting initiative at Road Salt Pond. We will meet at the parking area close to Road Bay Port at 4.30pm. Binoculars will be available although individuals with their own are encouraged to bring them. Light refreshments will be provided following the activity. The activity is free of charge and is supported by Darwin Plus through the cross-territory project, Safeguarding the Wetlands of the Caribbean UKOTs, led by the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds.
