Mr. Delano Mussington

The Ministry of Social Development & Education is pleased to announce the promotion of Mr. Delano Mussington to the post of Director of Sports. Mr. Mussington, who holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Sports Management from the State University of New York (SUNY), officially assumed the post of Director of Sports on 1st January 2022. He succeeds Mr. Andre Collins whose contract as Director of Sports ended December 31st 2021. The Ministry thanks Mr. Collins for his stellar performance as Director, his contributions to Anguilla and now welcomes Mr. Mussington to the position.

While at SUNY, Mr. Mussington served as the events assistant for the Athletics Department. Along with the Bachelors of Science degree he earned there, Mr. Mussington holds an Associate Degree in Business Management and is a Level 2 Coach in Basketball. Mr. Mussington’s passion for sports is evident in his many roles. He served as Facility Manager for the Government of Anguilla’s Department of Sports and the Match Commissioner of the Anguilla Football Association. Since 2020, he has been President of UP Grassroots Football Academy and has, since 2012, managed the Joe Faroba Basketball Camp. As an advocate for vulnerable youth on island, Mr. Mussington has been an active mentor for the Department of Youth & Culture and the Department of Probation’s Zenaida Haven since 2015.

While his love for all sports is evident, basketball and cricket have a special place in his heart. In 2012, Mr. Mussington started the Prison Basketball Tournament as a way of encouraging the inmates to utilize their skills in a positive way. As a cricketer, playing for Anguilla’s National team for 15 years, he was a Right Arm Fast Bowler for the Anguilla Sanford 20/20 Cricket Team 2007-2008, and was the Anguilla National Youth Cricket Team Manager/Coach from 2006-2008.

Prior to his promotion, Mr. Mussington served as the Programme Officer for the Department of Sports, and has had the opportunity to work under three different Directors — forming a close working relationship with each of them. His positive attitude, motivation, organization, and attention to detail, make him an asset to the Department of Sports and by extension the Government of Anguilla. Mr. Mussington’s comprehensive knowledge and hands on experience in Sports Management will serve him well in his new post.

Mr. Mussington believes that sports are about those incredible moments where sheer human will and desire overcomes the odds–these are the moments we remember. He stands true to the quote by Liane Cardes that ‘Continuous effort — not strength or intelligence — is the key to unlocking our potential.’ He hopes to foster the same mentality across the island.

The Ministry congratulates Mr. Mussington on his success and wishes him all the best in his new role.
