Steady construction progress has been made to Carter Rey Boulevard. The two sections being worked on are the Parliamentary Drive junction to the Social Security junction and the Social Security junction to Saint Mary’s junction.

Carter Rey Boulevard Construction

On Tuesday, construction workers started paving the sidewalks south of the Social Security junction – and started footing for the roundabout at Parliamentary Drive into the Old Galaxy area. Construction of the sidewalk on the south side of the road has begun, and the north side is almost complete.

After they complete the sidewalks, workers will pour the road surface which will most likely take place late next week. The curb and bus stop are already in completion.

Roads Engineer, Shaynis Connor, commented: “After they complete the sidewalks, they will pour the road surface for those sections. We will leave time for the road to cure and then those sections will be open to the public. After it’s opened up, we will move to the next section, and we will start the process of removing the soil, bringing in new material, compacting, constructing curbs, then constructing sidewalks, paving the road, and so on.”
Minister of Tourism, Haydn Hughes, said at Monday’s press conference: “They seem to be a little bit ahead of time – which is really good. We can always celebrate when we’re a little bit ahead of time.”
Additionally, the construction of the road to the Albena Lake Hodge Comprehensive School, at its new site in The Quarter is currently out on tender. The Tender Board will then decide on who will receive the contract and proceed with contract negotiations.
