The MV Deluxe, a double-decker ferry boat, was the first boat to resume services from Anguilla to French St. Martin (Marigot) after a two-year halt. The ferry departed with three passengers at 8:54 am and returned with two passengers at 10:10 am.
According to the government press release, the Blowing Point to Marigot route is a principal connection between Anguilla and St. Martin that dates back to many generations. The onset of the Covid-19 pandemic not only brought with it the temporary halt to this trade but also disconnects between many families, friends and businesses.
Captain and owner of The MV Deluxe, Joseph Davis, commented: “It was quiet. It was a good experience after being gone for two years. Everybody on the French side was excited to see the boat back, and they want to see this thing going because they’re used to this thing all their life. It was like a party when we got there.“
It is incumbent upon boatowners to receive certification of inspection from the Maritime Administration before being added to the ferry terminal roster. As of now, The MV Deluxe is the only boat that has received certification.
There will be departures daily from each port. Departures from the Blowing Point Port – Anguilla – will be 8:45 am, 11:45 am and 3:45 pm. Departures from Marigot Port – St.Martin – will be at 9:30 am, 12:30 pm and 4:30 pm.
