The Valley, Anguilla – On 9 December 2021, the Rotary Club of Anguilla held a memorial service in celebration of the life of one of its long service members, Rotarian Madeline Kelly-Pierz, who passed away on November 23, 2021, after a brief illness at her home in West End. The service was arranged by the Rotary Club of Anguilla and was held at Roy’s Bayside Grill – home of the Rotary Club of Anguilla weekly meetings.
Reverend Father Menes Hodge, a charter member of the Rotary Club of Anguilla and a long active honorary Rotarian, conducted the service of thanksgiving. In addition to the members of the Club, a number of honorary members and close friends of Rotarian Madeline were in attendance. Also in attendance was the Honourable Cardigan Connor, District Representative for West End. Rotarian Madeline’s family and friends from the USA also joined the service via zoom.
At the end of the service, a number of persons gave glowing tributes – most of whom described her as the most loving and caring person, who had a passion for Rotary and its motto “Service above Self”.
Rotarian Madeline was originally from the USA, but took up residence in Anguilla – for many years – a place she called home. During her time in Anguilla, she joined the Rotary Club of Anguilla and has since then been a very active member. She has made significant contributions to the lives of many Anguillians, especially the youth, where she willingly volunteered her time by tutoring young adults under the Department of Social Development programme.
Rotarian Madeline graciously opened her doors to hosting several activities for the Interact Club of Anguilla, in particular their fun day activities. She also provided accommodation to one of our Past Assistant District Governors, Jasmine Sally, from neighbouring St Martin when she visited the Club. These acts of kindness reflected the true spirit of Rotary which is embedded in the motto “Service Above Self”.
The Rotary Club of Anguilla would like to extend our deepest sympathies to her family and friends especially in the USA. She will be missed by her Rotary family and friends in Anguilla and abroad.
