COVID-19 has dramatically impacted the daily operations of schools on Anguilla. While secondary school students and teachers have resumed regular face-to-face teaching and learning in their physical classrooms, students and teachers at the primary school level are still operating in a remote learning environment – accessible only through on-line platforms.
The success of remote teaching and learning for Anguilla’s students depends, to a large extent, on the supportive infrastructure that is in place by the telecommunications and internet providers, the school system and its educators, and made accessible to students.
The Department of Education acknowledges the challenges to the success of its remote learning environment and the difficulties it presents for students in households that are experiencing financial challenges, or households that experience telecommunications and internet issues.
The department’s CEO, Mr. Bren Romney, also acknowledges FLOW – one of Anguilla’s telecommunications providers, as a reliable partner in the education of Anguilla’s students. He expressed gratitude for FLOW’s contributions of ongoing financial support to the schools and clubs through scholarships, grants, services, equipment and advanced technologies.
FLOW came through again for the Department of Education in response to a need – electronic devices for students to access online instruction.
On December 8th 2021, FLOW held a Press Conference to deliver on an activity from their Mission Week of Activities. Mrs. Jade Reymond-Richardson, Brand Manager, North Caribbean FLOW made a presentation of 50 Amazon Fire Tablets to the Department of Education.
Speaking at the press conference, she said: “As part of our Mission Week of Activities, we at FLOW, through our Cable and Wireless Charitable Foundation, are partnering with the Ministry of Education and the Department of Education to donate 50 Amazon Fire Tablets that will benefit students from primary though tertiary education.”
Speaking at the event, Mr. Romney noted: “In all our worst moments, in all the crises that we have endured over the years, FLOW has remained a committed and reliable partner to see us through all of it…and today, [FLOW] has responded [again] through the donation of fifty devices.”
He continued: “Families will benefit from these devices. This means that our students will no longer be dependent upon Learning Packs for continuity of learning, but they can connect to the live classes. For this, we are extremely grateful.”
The Honourable Premier, Dr. Ellis L. Webster and the Honourable Minister of Education, Ms. Dee-Ann Kentish-Rogers expressed their thanks and appreciation to FLOW for always being ready to take up the mantle in support of educating Anguilla’s students.
