Vehicular traffic at the Carter Rey Boulevard, otherwise known as The Valley Main Road, will be diverted for several weeks, now that the redevelopment of the new road has commenced.
The road, said to be a masterpiece, when completed probably in January, is being redeveloped at a cost of 7.1 million EC dollars, according to an earlier statement by the Minister of Infrastructure, Mr. Haydn Hughes.
The main heavy equipment operator is Mr. Junie Fleming of Superior Industrial Equipment Company Ltd. of South Hill.
Following is a press release issued by the Ministry of Infrastructure:
“The Ministry of Infrastructure, Communications, Utilities, Housing and Tourism advises the general public that the scheduled improvements to the Carter Rey Boulevard will result in sectional closures of the main road. The first phase of the extended closure will restrict traffic from the St. Mary’s Road junction to the Parliamentary Road junction with the following schedule.
Beginning Monday, 29th November, construction work will result in the blockage of the section of road from the junction at James Ronald Webster Building pass the General Post Office over to the Parliamentary Road junction.
Beginning Thursday, 2nd December, the road blockage will extend north to the National Commercial Bank of Anguilla Ltd. This restriction of traffic will remain in place until January 2022 when the section of road has been completed.
All motorists are required to follow the direction of the temporary directional signs if driving in the area. The public is urged to drive with caution, etiquette and, where possible, limit use of the temporary roads unless absolutely required. It is important to note that these temporary roads are primarily for access and business continuity for the establishments in the affected areas. Motorists are strongly encouraged not to park on or block these roads and access ways. The flow of traffic may slow or impede the flow outside the construction area, to this end motorist are strongly encouraged to use alternate routes where possible and account for the variance in travel time to avoid speeding.
MICUHT and by extension the Government of Anguilla thank the public and business community for its patience and understanding as we take these steps for national improvement.
