The University of the West Indies (UWI) Open Campus Anguilla and the Anguilla Chapter of the UWI Alumni Association are expressing their gratitude to the family of the late Mr. Julian R. Harrigan for their continued support of the Scholarship that was established in his memory. Following the award of the sixth Julian R. Harrigan Memorial Scholarship on November 17, 2021, brother Carl Harrigan presented President of the local UWI Alumni Association, Ms. Kemoloy Murphy with a cheque for US$1,000.00 on behalf of the family, as part of their annual contributions to the Award.
The Julian R. Harrigan Memorial Scholarship was established in 2016 by The UWI Open Campus Anguilla and the UWI Alumni Association – Anguilla Chapter, in collaboration with the family of the late Mr. Harrigan as a tribute to his contributions to the work of The UWI on Anguilla. Mr. Harrigan served as University Representative/Resident Tutor for some eighteen (18) years. A former Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Public Administration, he was also very involved in youth and social work, as well as the cultural life of the island. The annual Scholarship is intended to assist students enrolled in the Social Sciences especially Youth Development and Social Work at the UWI Open Campus Anguilla. It is available to new and continuing students and covers up to US$2,200.00 in tuition. Recipients to date include Ms. Kareen Harrigan, Ms. Jackie Harrigan, Ms. Codisha Webster, Ms. Disa Lake and Mrs. Janet Morancie.
The Julian R. Harrigan Memorial Scholarship is funded by donations from the Harrigan family, as well as UWI Alumni and Friends. Contributions are also accepted from the general public and other organisations interested in supporting education.
