The University of the West Indies (UWI) Open Campus Anguilla is collaborating with Gender Affairs Anguilla and The Ebenezer Men’s Fellowship to host a special service in celebration of International Men’s Day on Friday, November 19, 2021. The service, which is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. at the Ebenezer Methodist Church in the Valley, is under the theme, “Making a Difference – Better Men, Better Communities”. Featured Speaker for the occasion is UWI Alumnus and Teacher, Pastor Rondy Isles-Carty.

International Men’s Day is celebrated annually on November 19th around the world. After several initiatives dating back to the 1960’s, it was relaunched in 1999 by Dr. Jerome Teelucksingh, a History Lecturer at The University of the West Indies, St. Augustine. “The observance of International Men’s Day is based on six pillars, including the promotion of positive male role models and men’s health, improving gender relations, promoting gender equality and creating a safer, better world,” says Manager for The UWI Open Campus British Overseas Territories, Dr. Phyllis Fleming Banks. “The hosting of this celebration is certainly in keeping with The UWI’s mandate. Gender equality and gender justice are also among the core values of The University and so we continue to work with organisations like Gender Affairs and the Ebenezer Men’s Fellowship to realise these goals in our communities,” she said.

“The International Men’s Day agenda is similar to the mission of the Ebenezer Men’s Fellowship,” says President, Mr. Elkin Lloyd. “We are therefore pleased to join with The UWI Open Campus and Gender Affairs to observe this day as we continue our ministry to make a difference as leaders in the Church and in the society.”
Director of Gender Affairs, Dr. Ronya Foy Connor states, “We are delighted to partner with The UWI Open Campus and the Ebenezer Men’s Fellowship to recognise International Men’s Day in Anguilla. When most people hear of Gender Affairs, they think it is synonymous with Women’s Affairs and this is certainly not the case. This International Men’s Day celebration allows us a time to discuss how men contribute toward nation building and their impact on the foundations of our society, including family well-being, violence prevention and various humanitarian concerns.”
