The University of the West Indies (UWI) Open Campus Anguilla is launching another cohort in its Certificate in Early Childhood Care and Development Programme. A number of Pre-School and Kindergarten Teachers, Day Care and Baby-Sitting Service Providers, are among the cross-section of Early Childhood Workers participating in the Continuing and Professional Education programme which is slated to begin on October 12, 2021.
The first course in the programme, Introduction to Early Childhood Education, will be offered online and will be facilitated by veteran Educator and Education Officer, Mrs. Tracelyn Hamilton.
The aim of the one-year programme is to enhance knowledge and skills, as well as to provide an alternative learning pathway for early childhood workers and others who wish to undertake further studies in early childhood education. It is designed to expose individuals who are new, or are already working in the field, to the fundamentals of early childhood care and education.
The programme includes four courses and two practicums, and focuses on the basic principles of teaching young children, operating an early childhood institution, health, safety and nutrition, working with Family and Community, as well as the basic needs of children with respect to the Articles of the Convention on the Rights of the Child. Participants may choose to complete one or all four of the courses. Five (5) Early Childhood Workers: Ronnie Francis, Faustina Nanton, Oneeka Elias-Gillis, Janique Payne and Elaine Wilson-Alexander completed the full Certificate Programme earlier this year, while another cohort is scheduled to complete early next year.
Interested persons, including Pre-School and Kindergarten Teachers, Baby Sitters, Day Care Providers, Teaching Assistants, Parents/Guardians, or others interested in working with young children, are invited to contact The UWI Open Campus to register for the course or participate in the free Orientation/Meet and Greet Session on Thursday, October 7, 2021, at 5:30 p.m.
