Anguilla has a forceful Youth Parliament 2021-2023 whose members were sworn in on Friday, October 1, 2021 at the House of Assembly Chambers. The event was initially presided over by the Deputy Speaker, Mr. Merrick Richardson, in the absence of the Speaker, Mrs. Barbara Webster-Bourne.
The members of the Youth Council are as follows – Speaker: Sage Connor; Shamar Gaskin, District 1, Premier; Rhonica Connor, District 2, Leader of the Opposition; Najique Davis, District 3; Tyeisha Emmanuel, District 4; Ethan Harrigan, District 5; Alysha Carty, District 6; and Brenique Romney, District 7.
Clerk: K’dijah Dubique; Attorney General: Tishon Gumbs; Deputy Governor: Dehnae Smith; Alternate Attorney General, Klein Harrigan; and Alternate Deputy Governor, Jesarni Gumbs.
Island-wide elected representatives: Khadijah Muhammad, Tejanique Richardson, Ryanna Scott and Yohance Benjamin.
The persons who spoke highly about the members of the Anguilla Youth Parliament, at the swearing-in ceremony, were Pastor Denroy Gumbs, Chaplain of the Youth Parliament; Mr. Merrick Richardson, Deputy Speaker; Ms. Avon Carty, Director of the Department of Youth and Culture; Mr. Neil Gumbs, President of the Anguilla Youth Council; Ms. Dee-Ann Kentish-Rogers, Minister of Social Development and Education; Premier Dr. Ellis Lorenzo Webster; and Mrs. Cora Richardson-Hodge, Leader of the Opposition.
The swearing-in ceremony was part of National Youth Week which included a number of activities. Among them were: the 14th National Youth Conference on Youth and Development; and the First Sitting of the First Session of the 3rd Anguilla Youth Parliament at which the swearing-in ceremony took place. It was at that First Sitting that the young potential parliamentarians were praised for their organisation and the addresses they delivered.
National Youth Week had as its theme: “Economic Diversification and Food Security: Optimising Anguilla’s Green and Blue Economy.”
