An aspect of the Clinton Global Initiative has been ushered into the news by an invitation sent to The Anguillian newspaper inviting Anguilla to send an application to the Island Innovation Awards 2021.
“I am reaching out on behalf of Island Innovation which is hosting the Island Innovation Awards in partnership with the Clinton Global Initiative,” the communique from Sarah Forster, Director of Programming, stated on Friday, October 15, 2021.
“The awards will recognise individuals, organisations and technologies driving positive change for remote and island communities globally.
“The awards and nomination process was officially launched by President Bill Clinton during the Virtual Island Summit last month, which attracted over 14,000 attendees. We’re calling for individuals, organisations and projects to apply and nominate for the awards which are focussed on celebrating excellence in sustainability. Winners will be publicised across the Island Innovation and Clinton Global Initiative networks, resulting in exposure to thousands of people globally.
“This is an opportunity to gain exposure and visibility for sustainable projects in Anguilla so please let me know if there is interest in covering this.
“The applications will be reviewed by an esteemed panel of judges from various universities and other officials from various officials from developing countries and small island developing states.”
The invitation added: “While there is not a monetary prize for winners, there is certainty the potential for long-term future opportunities.
“For an individual or organisation launching a new project, having that project labelled as a good project by the judges is an opportunity for them to build their project, attract attention and increase funding.
“Winning individuals or organisations will be able to display an award badge on their website, social media, email newsletters and other places. Through the recognition from judges of their positive work, this could also lead to new networking, employment or business opportunities.
“Beyond the awards, Island Innovation and the Clinton Global Initiative will continue to highlight the winners after the Award ceremony. This will include a press release dedicated to each winner, social media posts and updates on the winning individuals, organisations and projects during next year’s Virtual Island Summit.”
