In her report at the weekly Government’s Press Conference on Monday, September 27th, the Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Aisha Andrewin, reported that at that time there were 27 active cases of Covid on the island. This was up by 12 cases from the previous week when 15 active cases were reported.
“This is not a welcome development” she said, “but in terms of the pattern that we are seeing, and the measures that we are taking, we are reasonably managing. We would love to see the transmissions go down. I therefore want to remind persons that if they experience any flu-like symptoms not to ignore them. Do not consider them as just ‘sniffles’. Covid is out there, until proven otherwise, so please change your mindset.”
She advised that if any such symptoms prevail, persons affected should not go to work, should be careful being around their family members and friends, and should get tested. She said, “We are still in a good position to get this under control, but the longer we drag it on, it would be more difficult for us to get back to our normal activities.”
Meanwhile, the CMO reported that the results of the 10 latest samples, sent to the Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA), proved that indeed they were of the Delta strain. She said, “This was not surprising.”
“In terms of vaccinations, our coverage has gone up to 59%,” she stated. “By global estimates, this represents 61% of our 15,000 estimated population. We are now getting walk-ins for vaccinations. The last shipment was for the completion of second doses, but now we have some available to open up for walk-ins.” She said these will be ministered at the Welches Polyclinic.
