Mr Carl Thomas being interviewed by Mr Lloyd Gumbs

Mr. Carl Thomas, a former employee of the Anguilla Probation Department and a long-time contributor to the island’s Senior Citizens’ Homes, has again organised assistance to them. This is despite COVID-19 which forced him to discontinue his visits there on this occasion.

Rather than travelling to the four institutions: the Government-run Miriam Gumbs Senior Citizens Home; Rosewood Home for the Elderly; Tender Loving Care; and Just Tender Care, Mr. Thomas arranged for members of the public to take various donations to the St. Mary’s Church Hall, formerly the Old Valley Boys’ School, for the senior citizens. The donations were placed in appropriately labelled bins which were later delivered to the homes by him.

“Due to the pandemic, we were not able to go to the homes this time,” he explained. “We normally went there to provide cosmetic treatments to the residents. The ladies from the salons would comb the hair of the women, give them make-ups and beautify their nails; and barbers would trim and shave the men as part of the cosmetic work.”

Mr. Thomas was grateful for the response he received on October 1 from members of the public. He stressed that the senior citizens were part of the Anguillian cultural and social life – and had contributed much to the island and its people during their active and productive years.
