COVID-19 continues to impact the people of Anguilla and their ability to take part in routine activities. Many of the island’s schoolchildren are faced with limited in-person school sessions and rely heavily on virtual learning. Consequently, there are some who do not have access to the digital resources necessary to support this new platform of e-learning.
The Anguilla Football Association believes that every student deserves the right to a good education and the digital infrastructure necessary to support this. In order to address the need among Anguilla’s students for these resources, the Anguilla Football Association supplied over 50 laptops to some younger members of the football community who attend primary and secondary school on island. The distribution of laptops occurred on Monday, October 11th 2021.
President Girdon Connor, along with Office Administrator – Shirlene Stephens, were present to distribute the laptops to the young footballers. Club members who received laptops came from: Gazelles FC, De Youngsters FC, Super Stars FC, Lil Soldiers FC, Diamond Queens FC, Shining Stars FC, Roaring Lions FC, Doc’s United FC, Uprising FC, Spartans FC, Lymers FC, Diamonds FC, Salsa Ballers FC, Kicks United FC, Enforcers FC and Attackers FC. The event was conducted in accordance with COVID-19 safety protocols.
The AFA would like to thank the Ministry of Education for assisting with the process of seeking duty free exemptions on the laptops.
President Connor remarked that initiatives, such as the laptop distribution, continue to progress the AFA’s vision of integrating football into our society through investing in players and members on and off the field.
