The Chief Medical Officer in Anguilla, Dr. Aisha Andrewin, says that in terms of the viral load and the evolution, the cases of the virus now popping up on the island are related to the Delta strain.
“Remember last time I said, with confidence, that it was the delta strain? Well, three of the recent five cases were delta and we are going to send some more tests away this week and, until proven otherwise, it is delta.” She was at the time speaking at the Government’s Press Conference on Monday, August 30.
“It is a clear distinct pattern in terms of the CT values we are seeing…and delta is the pervasive strain – at least in our markets from where persons are coming to us, and the places where our residents are returning from as well,” the CMO stressed.
The Delta strain or variant is currently the predominant strain of the COVID-19 virus in the United States. This variant is said to be highly contagious, causing more infections – and spreads faster than early forms of SARS-COVID, the virus that causes COVID -19.
