On Sunday 22nd August Gorgeous Scilly Cay and Tropical Distributors hosted their first ever ‘Model Boats Race.’
The organizers of the race were expecting 5 to 6 boats and were overwhelmed with emotion when several young men from the various villages came and registered (free registration) their boats which accumulated to 33 Model Boats. All the boats were locally made and designed by the young men. There was also an outpouring of support from the community.
There were 3 trial races, and following the real race, Mr. Matthias Pemberton of Island Harbour placed first with his boat, Baby Blue. He won a trophy and 300 US dollars sponsored by Tropical Distributors.
Jarique Harrigan of Island Harbour with his boat – “Splinter” placed second and he received a trophy and 200 US dollars sponsored by Scilly Cay Fishing Charters.
Corrani “Pepper” Proctor of North Hill with his boat “Savage” came in third. He received a trophy and 100US dollars.
GORGEOUS SCILLY CAY congratulates the 3 winners and thanked all the participants for coming out and making the race a success.
Special thanks to Tropical Distributors for coming on board and special thanks to Claron Rogers, Peter Webster, Ericino Carter and Kendall Richardson for their assistance with organizing the race.
Scilly Cay looks forward to putting on the event again next year August and encourages all the young men to continue their incredible work of boat building.
