During the takeover ceremony of Devonish Art Gallery, on July 31st, the new incoming manager, Mrs. Doreen Liburd, launched the raffle of a prized piece of art, specially for guests and patrons who visited the store anytime during the ceremony. Funds raised from the raffle were earmarked for a donation to the Dove Centre of Special Needs Education.

Participating visitors — during the ceremony — could have bought a raffle ticket for US$1.00. This gave them the opportunity to win a beautiful giclee-on-canvas painting by Shari Erickson. The fundraising raffle was drawn on the same evening, and the fortunate winner was 20-year-old Jevon Gittens.

Jevon has since returned to college in the US, but his parents, Jeannine and Tiger Gittens, of Arawak Hardwoods, in Old Ta, gratefully accepted his prize on his behalf. By phone, Jevon said, “As a musical artist, myself, I love and appreciate all art forms. From the moment I saw that painting, I told my parents that it was mine. And now it really is. Much thanks to the Devonish Gallery.”

Jevon’s treasured winning is among many other items of interest carried by Devonish Art. Patrons can visit the Gallery to peruse the giclee painting of Don Dahlke, authentic paintings and drawings by Collette Jones-Chin, original paintings by Beverly Perdue, driftwood and stained glass items by Paul Corfield, ceramic creations by Mandy Thody, and bath and body products by Cari Bella Skincare, made right here in Anguilla.

Mrs. Liburd made the presentation of an EC$1,000 cheque to Mrs. Tracelyn Hamilton, Education Officer, Multi-Professional Support Services. Mrs. Hamiliton was grateful to receive the contribution on behalf of Dove 2, and she expressed her gratitude: “On behalf of the Multi-Professional Support Services Division of the Department of Education, I would like to thank Mrs. Doreen Liburd of Devonish Art Gallery for her thoughtfulness in donating to Dove Centre. It tells us that our special needs units are not forgotten. This donation will go towards purchasing resources for our Dove Centre.”
