As Aurora Anguilla Resort & Golf Club continues its programme of redevelopment, the five-star property is also deepening its interest and involvement in the cultural life and history of the island.

What greater way to do this than by providing sponsorship for one of Anguilla’s fastest and popular sleek racing boats, Sonic. A community boat from South Hill Village, Sonic has been the talk of the island during and after the just-ended August holiday week of boat racing.

The A-class boat and its crew won the Champion of Champions Race on Sunday, August 8 and Sonic has also been named “Boat of the Year 2021.” In an amazing performance and sailing skill, Sonic won all three of the regular week-long races on August Monday; at Road Bay; August Tuesday from Road Bay to Island Harbour; and August Thursday at Meads Bay. Its winning of the championship title at Road Bay, was not just a feat, but a foregone conclusion.

It brought much celebration not only to its exciting captain, crew, the community and all of its fans across Anguilla, but also to its proud sponsors Aurora Anguilla Resort & Golf Club.
Managing Director of Aurora Anguilla Resort & Golf Club, Mr. Simon A. Flicker, personally shared in the excitement of the crew. He met with them for a photo shoot and camaraderie moment at Road Bay on August 12. In a mark of gratitude and appreciation, the crew presented Mr. Flicker with a captain’s cap which he wore with much pride during the celebration.

Commenting on at the event, Mr. Flicker said: “At Aurora Anguilla we are guided by our commitment to celebrating the Anguilla community and our desire to be immersed in the culture of the island. Embracing Anguilla’s tradition has been a big part of that and sponsoring Sonic was an exciting way to actively participate in one of the island’s most beloved activities, boat racing. Watching the team win was a moment I will never forget and we cannot wait for the many boat races that are to come in spring next year.”

Mr. Tyrone Lewis, a crew member and also a member of the Aurora Culinary Team, as Chef de Partie, had this to say: “The boat races in Anguilla have always been one of my favourite traditions. To have the support of Aurora Anguilla, through the resort’s sponsorship of Sonic, was very special, especially as a member of the Aurora Anguilla team. Winning was incredible and I am happy I was able to share the victory with not only the Sonic team, but my colleagues at the property.”

Sonic and its crew will continue to celebrate their August 2021 boat racing feat for a long time.
