As part of the activities marking the celebration of Emancipation Day 2021, The University of The West Indies (UWI) Open Campus Anguilla/Country Conference Committee is collaborating with the Methodist Church, Anguilla Circuit, to host a follow-up Community Engagement Emancipation Lecture Session on Sunday, August 1, 2021 at 6:30 p.m., at the Ebenezer Methodist Chapel in the Historic Lower Valley.
The Lecture, “’Slavery in Anguilla and the Price of Emancipation”, by Barrister, Mr. Carlyle Rogers, focuses on slavery in Anguilla and the compensation received by the enslavers. During this session, members of the audience will pose questions, comments and feedback.
This August 1st Emancipation Day event will also see a number of Malliouhana Poetry Writers paying special tribute to the late Poet/Writer, Reverend Dr. Wycherley Gumbs, who was instrumental in establishing the Emancipation Lecture Series.
The general public is invited to be a part of this awareness-building celebration of our ancestors, their resilience and legacy at the historic Ebenezer Chapel on Emancipation Day, Sunday, August 1, 2021.
