The Valley Anguilla – The Ministry of Infrastructure, Communication, Utilities, Housing and Tourism (MICHUT) advises the general public that the preliminary work for the redevelopment of the Carter Rey Boulevard also know as the Valley Main Road will see increase activity over the next week. From Sunday, 18th July 2021 the Anguilla Electricity Company Limited (ANGLEC) has erected new poles and have been finalizing preparations to move the electrical lines outside of the surfacing area that will make up the new road.
Businesses within The Valley central area, that is, between the Wall blake roundabout and the roundabout at the James Ronald Webster Park are reminded that there will be a scheduled maintenance outage on Thursday, 22nd July 2021 from BAM to 3:45PM to facilitate moving the lines. The general public is encouraged to use alternative routes as much as possible as the flow of traffic in this area will be affected as well.
The Honourable Minister MICUHT, Mr. Haydn Hughes expressed thanks to the team at ANGLEC for moving about this first phase with diligence and efficiency. Noting the concerns being fielded by his office as well as on numerous media platforms and programmes, Minister Hughes stated: “We continue to hear the concerns of the public regarding the development of the Carter Rey Boulevard. This critical piece of infrastructure has been a long time coming and breaking ground is a rewarding and exciting time for all Anguillians. While there are concerns about the removal of some trees among other culturally appropriated landmarks, it is important to know that the competent team of engineers at MICUHT, the utility companies and contracted agencies to handle the resurfacing has performed the necessary work with diligence, care and due process. They were sure to exhaust every option to arrive at the decisions that would come to fruition over the development of the road.”
The general public is again reminded that the schedule of work will begin to slow traffic and reduce access to businesses along the Carter Rey Boulevard. Road signs of alternate routes and further communications on the use of such during the redevelopment will be published in a subsequent release.
