Seven utility poles along the Carter Rey Boulevard were being relocated by ANGLEC on Thursday, July 22nd to accommodate the redevelopment of the roadway which is soon to begin. The pole extractions were taking place simultaneously with the hurricane preparedness drill conducted by ANGLEC and other utility companies, under the direction of the Department of Disaster Management.
ANGLEC’s Logistics Engineer, Mr. Steve Hodge spoke to The Anguillian about the pole extractions: “Today we are ‘killing two birds with one stone” he said, “as we work with other essential utility services on the 2021 hurricane preparedness drill, while removing seven poles to make way for Government’s initiative on the upgrade of the Carter Rey Boulevard. So what we are doing is combining two efforts in one.”
Mr. Hodge explained that work was in progress on removing the seven poles from the eastern side of the road that lines the boulevard just after the Wall Blake roundabout. He declared that there was not a certainty that all seven poles would be extracted by 3:45 when electricity would be restored, but they were working assiduously to reach that goal.
He explained that due to the fact that the road would be widened, these poles in the way must be removed after stripping them of all cables, transformers and other fixtures. The cables, transformers and fixtures will be affixed to other poles that have been pre-planted further away from the roadside.
