Stories on Mr. David Carty and Mr. Garfield Richardson are the main features of the newly-released book, Boat Men – the first in the series Sandy Ground Tales written by school teacher, Ms. Avenella Griffith.
The colourful book, with animated illustrations and now in many hands in Anguilla, states in its introduction: “This is a compilation of two exciting and uniquely illustrated stories filled with creatively woven images and facts. From the shores of Sandy Ground, Boat Men sails through the real life motivational stories of David Carty and Garfield Richardson.”
As expected, the book traces various areas of their lives, contributions to Anguilla and their ultimate love of the sea and boats. David Carty is recognised as the founder and owner of Rebel Marine, a high-class boat building company, and Garfield Richardson as the owner of the Gotcha Charter Boats and Sea Tours business.
A review of Boat Men, written by Maris Edwards, an educator, is published elsewhere in this edition of The Anguillian newspaper.
The publication, in paperback, hardback and digital eBook presentation, was printed by Divine Works Publishing, LLC, in Royal Palm Beach, Florida. The illustrations were done by artists Navine Mairyshaw and Carmel Gumbs. The book was privately launched at Sandy Ground on Tuesday, June 1, and officially launched on Wednesday, June 2, at Rebel Marine Boatyard at North Hill.
The book is available at US$15.00. The author, Avenella Griffith, can be contacted for copies which will also be in circulation at a number of outlets on the island.
