The Pinning or Investiture of Dr. Maglan Richardson took place before a small group of members of the Soroptimist International of Anguilla on Tuesday June 2, 2021 between 4.30 and 5.00 p.m., at the Soroptimist Hall in The Valley, Anguilla.

The brief ceremony was conducted by President Yolande Richardson who gave the welcome and opening remarks which were followed by a prayer by Patron Rosena Brooks. In her opening remarks, Mrs. Richardson said that we were living in unusual times, and therefore had to conduct matters in an unusual way in order to meet the requirements of the Club internationally. Dr. Richardson should have been pinned at the Annual General Meeting which was scheduled for April 27, 2021.

The Pledge was recited by all present and the Pinning was conducted by Mrs. Pamela Connor, Chairperson of the Membership Committee. The President who had sponsored Dr. Richardson stood beside her while the Patron did the pinning. Congratulatory remarks were offered to Dr. Richardson reminding her of some of the Core values of Soroptimist International. These were to include educating, empowering, and enabling opportunities for

• women and girls to live free from discrimination
• women and girls to act freely in their own best interest
• women and girls to lead free and productive lives through access to education, and
• women and girls from varied backgrounds to work together to improve their own lives.
Dr. Richardson was also reminded that she had joined a worldwide progressive organisation that makes a difference, and she was to encourage young women, like herself, to do likewise.

In her response, Dr. Richardson thanked the many persons who had supported her throughout her years – and since she was asked to join the Club. She recognised the presence of her former teachers, the President who had invited her to join the Club and her cousin, Dr. Lana Hoyoung, who ensured that she attended meetings. She promised to be a productive member of Soroptimist International of Anguilla thereby helping to advance the good name of the Club.

The President and members of Soroptimist International of Anguilla take this opportunity to invite the young women of Anguilla to JOIN THIS WORLDWIDE PROGRESSIVE ORGANISATION with its motto of WOMEN INSPIRING ACTION, TRANSFORMING LIVES.
